Building our gigabit broadband network

We’ve started building our state-of-the-art, full fibre network in 10 market towns in South Lincolnshire and West Norfolk, this is the first stage in our funded plan to build to 100,000 homes by the end of 2022. It will mean residents and businesses will have access to a truly futureproof internet connection.

The towns we’re building in are Sleaford, Skegness, Boston, Bourne, Stamford, Spalding, Market Deeping, Holbeach, Long Sutton and King’s Lynn. We’re focused on making a difference to communities underserved by the big brands and the existing infrastructure because we believe nobody should be left behind.

We’re building as quickly and as environmentally kindly as we can

So, wherever possible we’ll re-use existing underground infrastructure and telegraph poles; and by using the latest digital tools to plan our network we minimise disruption and increase our speed of deployment. Inevitably there will be some build works but we aim to minimise these as much as we can. We’re committed to supporting local communities and to our environment so at every opportunity we’re investing in greener, cleaner ways and asking our partners to meet our same high standards.

Using state-of-the-art technology

We’re using the latest Passive Optical Network technology. This futureproofs our network, meaning we’ll be able to offer our customers symmetrical upload and download speeds.

What you can expect in your street

How we'll build the network
We’re using the ducts and poles that are already there. This means we won’t be starting by trying to dig trenches in the footpaths like other networks but where we can’t use existing duct, we’ll have to do some trenching, and we won’t be putting green cabinets in the streets. So, you’ll see us fixing things to the tops of poles and digging holes for underground chambers so we can connect everything up.

We may need to dig across some roads, but we’ll be working closely with the local council and Highway authorities to make sure residents know before any work begins.

Working with our build partners

We’ve appointed a specialist team of fibre infrastructure build partners, RCU Solutions and Plancast. The 100-strong team are all highly experienced in the design, build and implementation of fibre optic networks and will work in partnership with us to achieve our ambitions.

We have the full support of all the local authorities led by Lincolnshire County Council.

Where will Lightspeed be available?

How will I know you are coming to my street?

We’ll add more detail on each of the towns we’re building as things progress, including maps to show the specific areas. Register with us and we’ll keep you updated by email as things get underway. Follow us on social media for all the latest news and announcements.

Will you be able to connect all homes in an area?

We aim to provide services to as many homes and businesses as possible. Our target is to reach 100k homes & businesses by the end of 2022. In some areas this may not be possible, in which case we will look at what the options are to connect these areas, which may require additional funding.

When can I get connected?

We plan to connect our first customers in Autumn 2021. Register here and you’ll be the first to know when you can get connected.

Will you provide services in rural locations?

Our focus is to get as many homes and businesses connected, as cost efficiently as possible, to ensure our services are affordable. We will initially prioritise areas of denser populations in towns across the region. We will open a dialogue with local authorities and communities to understand needs and priorities in more rural areas in due course.
